Betsy's Camino Packing List
- Backpack (I had an Osprey 38 L pack)
- Line backpack with a large black garbage bag. Keeps things dry when it rains.
- Backpack rain cover
- Hiking Sticks with RUBBER bottoms
- Fanny pack
- Sunglasses
- Cap/hat
- Journal and pen
- Carabiner to attach things to your backpack
- Sleeping bag liner (you don’t really need a sleeping bag)
- Rain pants and jacket (ponchos blow around too much in the rain and wind – I wished I’d had a rain jacket and rain pants)
- 2 lightweight water bottles (you really don’t really need two, there are plenty of places to get water along the way). I used the same two Aquafina bottles for the whole trip.
- SHOES: I loved my Altra Lone Peak Trail Runners, got a ½ size bigger to accommodate 2 pair of socks and foot swelling
- SHOES: 1 pair flip flops for evening and shower use
- Socks: Iniji Toe Socks x 2 (really important)
- Socks: Darn Tough Merino wool socks x 2
- 2 light weight t-shirts
- 1 pair of lightweight running shorts
- 1 pair of convertible hiking pants
- 3 pair of underwear (I put all my clothing in baggies, separated by type. Much easier to maneuver and quieter in the dorms)
- Hoodie for chilly mornings. I guess you could use your rain jacket instead.
- Quickdry bath towel. Great for showers and to hang from bed for privacy.
- Travel size bar of soap with baggie.
- Shampoo (small size) – pharmacies will have them along the way. I used mine to wash my clothes. Double duty.
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Deodorant (there are plenty of pharmacies, so you don’t have to stock too much)
- Comb/brush
- Razor (again you can restock at local pharmacies)
- Medications
- Cold Medication tablets
- Sunscreen – the back of your legs/calves and your arms will burn without it. Always walking west so sun is always at your back.
- Ibuprofin (get some to start, but can resupply at local pharmacies if needed)
- Roll x 2 of moleskin – part of morning foot care routine
- Small scissors – part of morning foot care routine
- Chafing Cream – part of morning foot care routine
- Compeed bandages – didn’t need them but good to have just in case.
- EAR PLUGS !!! The ones I got were great.
- Adapter for Spain outlets. (they have outlets by the bunkbeds)
- Cell phone
